Introduction 

On 25th July 2023, the Atut Bandhan Society, a movement dedicated to support financially struggling medical students, had the extraordinary privilege of meeting Her Excellency President Mrs. Draupadi Murmu. This unique event marked a significant milestone in the journey of the Atut Bandhan family, as they continue to provide a lifeline to deserving students in pursuit of their medical education. The meeting with the President of India was a momentous occasion, celebrating compassion, dedication, and the power of collective effort to transform lives. 

The Birth of Atut Bandhan 

The Atut Bandhan Society began as a simple wish to support a single medical student who faced financial hardships and struggled to focus on their studies. It was founded by individuals who approached the anatomy professor of MKCG Medical College with the noble intention of identifying one deserving student who could use a helping hand. However, what they discovered was astonishing – there were multiple students in similar circumstances, all in dire need of financial assistance. This revelation sparked the realization that if one batch had 10 students facing financial struggles, there could be countless others across the five government medical colleges who required support. 

The movement took shape, and the Atut Bandhan family was born – a lifelong relationship dedicated to helping students in need. What began with the support of friends and family soon expanded, as more students reached out through various channels, leading to the search for additional sponsors. Today, the Atut Bandhan family proudly supports over 50 students. The founders’ unwavering dedication and meticulous verification processes ensure that only genuinely needy students receive assistance, making each contribution truly meaningful. 

The Annual Day: A Memorable Gathering 

On May 15th, 2023, the Atut Bandhan Society celebrated its first annual day to commemorate a year since its inception. During this heartfelt event, students expressed their gratitude to the Atut Bandhan family for being the guiding light in their challenging academic journey. On this special occasion, the founder members seized the opportunity to submit a memorandum requesting a meeting with the President of India. Their heartfelt plea was acknowledged, and to their delight, the President agreed to meet the students on July 25th, 2023. 

A Personal Connection 

The impact of the Atut Bandhan movement goes beyond the students and founders. Individuals touched by the endeavor have sought ways to contribute and make a difference. During an alumni function at Sainik School, I had the fortune of meeting the founder of Atut Bandhan. Inspired by their efforts, i eagerly offered support and was soon connected to a medical student from SCB Medical College cuttack my alma mater.  He hails from Warangal, Andhra Pradesh. The support was provided directly to the student, fostering a sense of personal connection and trust in the mission. The joy of contributing to the future of a bright young mind was immeasurable, with the belief that this student would become someone to look up to in the future.

A Memorable Encounter 

On the long-awaited day of 25th July, the Atut Bandhan Society had the privilege of meeting with Her Excellency President Mrs. Draupadi Murmu. The President acknowledged the significant impact of this collective effort in supporting deserving students who had already proven their worth by securing high ranks in entrance examinations. By assisting these students financially, the Atut Bandhan family ensured they could focus on their studies and pursue a brighter future. 

During the event, one of the students shared their heartfelt promise to support another needy student once they began earning. This gesture moved the President, who praised the people who stepped forward to support these aspiring medical professionals. She encouraged the students to excel in their studies and make their supporters proud.

It marks a new chapter in the Atut Bandhan Society’s mission to bridge the gap between potential and opportunity, promoting education as the cornerstone of a prosperous nation.
